Severed

Published by Image Comics, Severed is a creator-owned title by Eisner nominated writer Scott Snyder (American Vampire, Detective Comics), writer Scott Tuft and New York Times Best-Selling artist Attila Futaki (Percy Jackson).

This seven issue horror mini-series is mostly set in 1916, follows Jack Garron, a 12-year-old who has left home in search of his father, a wayward minstrel. Jack soon finds out that out on the roads and rails of early 20th century America, nothing goes wasted.

The cover and four pages of Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. were posted today in the Comic Book Resources forums. Jeff Lemire is riding the wave of of acclaim from last week’s Animal Man #1 into this week’s possible sleeper title. The book looks like it’s in good hands with art by Alberto Ponticelli as well.

DC Comics – The New 52 Art Tour

This Fall, several retailers will host artists involved in DC’s The New 52 reboot series of books. This won’t just be a simple meet and greet in-store event. According to DC, this will be a showcase event:

Showcasing the creative process behind such titles as WONDER WOMAN, THE FLASH, ACTION COMICS, GREEN LANTERN, SWAMP THING and BATWOMAN retailers will be hosting events with DC Comics-The New 52 artists. Framed art will be on display to illustrate the artists’ process—from script, to pencils, to inks, to the final colored and lettered page. And in many instances, art from other DC Comics-The New 52 #1s will be on display in a gallery type atmosphere.

Title:Raise Dem Bones

Scott Snyder is no stranger to horror stories; he’s won an Eisner and a Harvey Award for his work on DC’s American Vampire and his current work also includes Image’s Severed miniseries. So it seems fitting that he’d be chosen to take on a character who was first introduced in the horror anthology title House of Secrets.

Created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, the character was conceived as Alec Holland mutating into Swamp Thing after being dowsed by an experimental formula and being burned alive. When Alan Moore reinvented Swamp Thing in the 1980’s, he explained that Swamp Thing was an elemental entity that absorbed Holland’s memories and personality upon death. Therefore removing all human aspects from the creature and, in essence, making him an elemental god as it were.
