Comic Book Critic is celebrating it’s first anniversary in February 2012 and we’d like to thank everyone that makes this site possible – our readers! We’ve grown very quickly thanks to all of our followers, Thank You!

So I decided to get together a few books and give them away to a lucky reader as a token of our gratitude. It’s very easy to enter the giveaway and you could come away with a few extra books to read.

In September 2012, DC Comics will be releasing an original 94 page hardcover graphic novel, The Judas Coin, written and illustrated by the legendary Walt Simonson.

The story features characters from all across the DC Universe and the cover that was released today is based on a featured showdown between Batman and Two-Face.

Cow Boy: A Boy and His Horse Arrives this Spring!

Cow Boy: A Boy and His Horse, the long awaited graphic novel by Nate Cosby and Chris Eliopoulos, will be available from Archaia Entertainment in March 2012 according to their press release.

The story centers around Boyd Linney, “a 10-year-old bounty hunter determined t’round up his entire outlaw family. He scours the Old West on a horse that ain’t his, armed with a stick-horse what packs a loud holler.” Chris and Nate have been teasing their followers with images from the book over the last few months, and from what I’ve seen, it looks fantastic! I’ll be sure to have my order placed well in advance.

There’s also been a lot of buzz about this book from around the web.

DC Entertainment Adds Life to Their New Logo

New DC Entertainment Logos in Full Color!

Last week it was revealed that DC Entertainment was getting rid of the “swoosh” logo in favor of a newer, more modern look. The new “peel away” logo was quickly dismissed by many as ugly, plain and generic. Well, today, DC officially announced their “new brand identity” along with some examples and uses of their logo, which is based on the appropriately named Gotham font.

While I was one of those who hated the original design, which turned out to just be a template, I can tolerate the examples that DC has provided. I still don’t really quite like the new sleeker look entirely, but it looks much better then the basic design in black and white.

Valiant Entertainment today officially announced the first title release of their relaunch – X-O Manowar!

X-O Manowar #1 will be written by New York Times best-selling author Robert Venditti (The Surrogates) and illustrated by Eisner Award winner Cary Nord (Conan), featuring a cover by Esad Ribic. Along with the announcement, Valiant released the cover of X-O Manowar #1 by Esad Ribic along with preliminary interior artwork by Cary Nord – which you can find below.

Harvey Pekar’s Last Graphic Novel Ships in March 2012

In March 2012, Zip Comics and Top Shelf Productions are co-publishing Harvey Pekar’s last graphic novel entitled Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland illustrated by Joseph Remnant.

Harvey Pekar (1939-2010) was an autobiographical comics pioneer and lifelong resident of Cleveland, Ohio. His critically acclaimed series, American Splendor, began in 1976 and spawned a film of the same name with Paul Giamatti as Pekar himself.

Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland is a 128 page black and white hardcover graphic novel written by Harvey Pekar and illustrated by Joseph Remnant. It measures 9.3” x 7.3” and includes an introduction by Alan Moore for $21.99 US. The book will be available in comics shops and bookstores in March 2012.

DC Publishes The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo GN in November 2012

Late in 2011 DC Comics acquired the worldwide rights to Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy series of novels. All three novels, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest, will be published as graphic novels under DC’s Vertigo imprint from 2012 through 2014.

The first of the three graphic novel adaptation releases, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, will arrive in bookstores November 2012 and features a cover by artist Lee Bermejo (Batman: Noel). No word yet as to the page count, format size, or cover price of the book.
