DC Comics has been spreading out the previews to their New 52 titles among different news outlets, this time it’s USA Today – getting the preview for Detective Comics #1 by Tony Daniel. Detective Comics #1 is the first Batman title to be published and will be followed by Batman #1, Batman and Robin #1, and Batman: Dark Knight #1 in subsequent weeks.

Daniel says his Batman will emphasize the “detective” part of the character.

"It allows me to do some edgier stories. We’re concentrating on serial killers and real bad guys in Gotham City— the scum of the earth — so I get to have a really good film-noir vibe going on with the character: dark, gritty, intense story lines that wouldn’t have felt right with the more superhero-y Batman comic."

Is the DC Universe Relaunch a Success?

Justice League

Justice League #1 was launched at 12:00am on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 and by the middle of the day, some retailers were announcing that they had sold through on all their ordered copies. According to #comicmarket on Twitter, some larger comics stores were getting calls from other owners asking if they had any extra stock on hand to sell them.

Printers Working Overtime

Justice League #1 2nd printActing quickly on the news of the sellouts of Justice League #1, DC Comics announced that they were going back to press for a second printing. Very shortly after the announcement by Diamond Distribution that they were taking orders for the second printing, Diamond claimed that they had sold out of the second printing. All retail orders were placed on “backorder” status. This fueled speculation that DC had already planned to do a second printing with a finite print run. The demand by retailers, and presumably readers, has forced DC to announce that a third printing is in the works.

DC Comics The New 52 – Teaser Tag Lines

DC New 52 Poster

DC Comics has released a list of quotes taken from each of their New 52 first issues set to be released throughout the month of September, starting with Justice League #1 on August 31st.

According to DC’s The Source Blog; “These one-liners set up the themes of their corresponding series, hint at the unexpected return of fan-favorite characters and allude to significant changes.” The Source will be revealing two series from which these teaser quotes were taken on a daily basis.

So far, two series have been revealed… Can you guess where the rest of the quotes come from before they’re all known?

  • “If you’re not moving, you’re not living.”
  • “If we stop looking to the present and the past, and instead we look to the future…if we ask ourselves what can be–what it will be tomorrow… then we’re asking the right question. Because to hope, to dream, to predict is to shape the city yourself, rather than to be shaped by it.”

First Look at Henry Cavill as Superman

superman closeupToday Warner Bros. released the first still from Zack Snyder’s upcoming The Man of Steel film. It features Henry Cavill as Superman in front of a bank vault that’s been broken open as sparks shoot from severed power lines.

One thing that’s immediately apparent is that the coloring on the suit seems to be darker than the bright blue and red we’re used to seeing on Superman. It also has that glossy, textured look similar to the Spider-Man costume in the newly rebooted The Amazing Spider-Man.

It’s hard to tell from the still if Superman is wearing his trademark red shorts, but we do know that he’s wearing a belt. Although DC is currently relaunching their DC Universe with altered costumes, it looks as though they are staying true to the character’s original look for the film.

Just yesterday, Warner Bros. announced that Laurence Fishburne was cast in the role of Perry White, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet. Fishburne will join an all-star cast led by Henry Cavill and including Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Christopher Meloni (Colonel Hardy), Julia Ormond (Lara Lor-Van), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), and Antje Traue (Faora).

The Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder is set for a June 14, 2013 release date. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Close up photos of Batman vs Bane from The Dark Knight Rises

Yesterday we posted images of Tom Hardy as Bane from Christopher Nolan’s Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Well, today more photos have surfaced. This time we catch the hero and villain trading blows! These images come courtesy of ComicBookMovie.com.

Shooting on location in Pittsburgh, PA in late July, it must get pretty hot in those costumes. The fake snow doesn’t make it any cooler either.
