Valiant Entertainment today officially announced the first title release of their relaunch – X-O Manowar!

X-O Manowar #1 will be written by New York Times best-selling author Robert Venditti (The Surrogates) and illustrated by Eisner Award winner Cary Nord (Conan), featuring a cover by Esad Ribic. Harvey Pekar’s Last Graphic Novel Ships in March 2012

Harvey Pekar's ClevelandIn March 2012, Zip Comics and Top Shelf Productions are co-publishing Harvey Pekar’s last graphic novel entitled Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland illustrated by Joseph Remnant.

Harvey Pekar (1939-2010) was an autobiographical comics pioneer and lifelong resident of Cleveland, Ohio. His critically acclaimed series, American Splendor, began in 1976 and spawned a film of the same name with Paul Giamatti as Pekar himself.

Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland is a 128 page black and white hardcover graphic novel  written by Harvey Pekar and illustrated by Joseph Remnant. It measures 9.3” x 7.3”  and includes an introduction by Alan Moore for $21.99 US. The book will be available in comics shops and bookstores in March 2012.

DC Publishes The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo GN in November 2012

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Late in 2011 DC Comics acquired the worldwide rights to Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy series of novels. All three novels, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest, will be published as graphic novels under DC’s Vertigo imprint from 2012 through 2014.

The first of the three graphic novel adaptation releases, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, will arrive in bookstores November 2012 and features a cover by artist Lee Bermejo (Batman: Noel). No word yet as to the page count, format size, or cover price of the book.

The Shadow #1 will feature alternate covers by fan favorite artists Alex Ross, Howard Chaykin, Jae Lee, and John Cassaday. The first issue is due to be released in April 2012.

Walt Simonson returns to Marvel Comics to draw an Avengers six issue story arc written by Brian Michael Bendis starting with Avengers #25. The story will take place during the heat of the Avengers vs X-Men battle.

Simonson had previously worked on the Avengers in the late 1980’s as a writer, but this time he’s taking on the artist’s chores. Daniel Acuna will provide the cover for Avengers #25.

Batman: Earth One by Geoff Johns & Gary Frank Finally Ships in 2012

BME1_HC_24Originally announced by DC Comics back in late 2009, Batman: Earth One by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank is finally being released in 2012! Earth One is an original hardcover graphic novel that retells the Batman legend in a contemporary setting.

Like Superman: Earth One by J. Michael Straczynski and Shane Davis that was released in 2010, changes some details of the origin and arrival of the Caped Crusader. Some of the changes being that Alfred doesn’t seem to be the frail butler of Bruce Wayne and Batman never left Gotham City in order to train his skills.

DC has also released a few unlettered pages from Batman: Earth One drawn by Gary Frank, which we have on display below.
