Bill Sienkiewicz Cover and Art Gallery

Bill Sienkiewicz - photo by Luigi Novi

Bill Sienkiewicz is one of those artists that polarizes comic book fans – You either love his art or you hate it. Much like Frank Miller, Sienkiewicz’s early artwork was influenced by Neal Adams, but eventually took on a style of it’s own.

His early Moon Knight issues, especially the cover to issue one, show how close his art style compared to Adams. Once established in the industry, Sienkiewicz really let loose on his artwork. Later issues of his run on Moon Knight show glimpses of what he would wind up doing on The New Mutants several years later. In 1984 – 1985, Sienkiewicz’s run on the New Mutants, along with writer Chris Claremont, was not only artistically innovative, it was a seminal moment for the title.

Between 1986 and 1990, Sienkiewicz worked with highly talented writers on a number of projects: Frank Miller on Elektra: Assassin mini-series and Daredevil: Love and War GN, Andrew Helfer on The Shadow, and Alan Moore on Big Numbers and Brought to Light GN among others. Aside from the previous works, He’s also contributed to numerous Marvel and DC books including The Question, Batman, The Fantastic Four, Stray Toasters, and The Black Widow.

Whether you love or hate his art style, Bill Sienkiewicz is certainly an innovator in his field. That’s exactly what comics need from time to time!

Review: Daredevil #2 (Marvel)

Daredevil #2 (2011)Writer: Mark Waid
Penciler: Paolo Rivera
Inker: Joe Rivera
Colors: Javier Rodriguez
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Editor: Ellie Pyle, Stephen Wacker
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Date: October 2011
Cover Price: $2.99

Title: “Red, White, Black and Blue”

The current incarnation of Daredevil by Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera has something that readers have long missed from the title – it’s fun to read. Gone are the tragedies that befall Matt Murdock at every turn and the deep clawed monkeys that cling to his back. This version of Murdock/Daredevil is not about what happens in his life, but how he can help others.

The story opens with a fight between Daredevil and Captain America, as Cap tries to bring in Daredevil to answer for what he’s done in the past. The fight sequence is classic Daredevil and Paolo Rivera’s artwork, flowing from panel to panel, hearkens back to what I loved about the character.

DC Comics The New 52 – Teaser Tag Lines

DC New 52 Poster

DC Comics has released a list of quotes taken from each of their New 52 first issues set to be released throughout the month of September, starting with Justice League #1 on August 31st.

According to DC’s The Source Blog; “These one-liners set up the themes of their corresponding series, hint at the unexpected return of fan-favorite characters and allude to significant changes.” The Source will be revealing two series from which these teaser quotes were taken on a daily basis.

So far, two series have been revealed… Can you guess where the rest of the quotes come from before they’re all known?

  • “If you’re not moving, you’re not living.”
  • “If we stop looking to the present and the past, and instead we look to the future…if we ask ourselves what can be–what it will be tomorrow… then we’re asking the right question. Because to hope, to dream, to predict is to shape the city yourself, rather than to be shaped by it.”

Cosplay Gone Wrong

Comic Book Critic has shown you some really good cosplay from recent comic conventions, from SDCC to SpringCon to C2E2. We’ve collected the women and babes of cosplay for our loyal readers. But we haven’t put together the bad part of cosplay… until now.

We scoured Google images to bring you some truly bad cosplayers and costumes. Sometimes it’s the costume, sometimes it’s the cosplayer, oftentimes it’s the magical combination of both that just make you pause and wonder if what you saw was real.

Cover, Designer: Scott Kowalchuk
Colorist: Donna Gregory
Letterer: Ariana Maher
Script Editor: Brittany Matter
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Date: August 2011
Cover Price: $2.99

Title: “End of an Era”

The Intrepids #6 unfortunately marks the end of this six issue mini series, but it does so with a bang! The Intrepids come to a realization they’ve been manipulated by their benefactor Dante. This time Dante uses Chester to carry out his bidding remotely by use of a helmet that he uses to control Chester. The team then sides with Dr. Koi in an effort to bring down their leader.

If you’re looking for action, this issue does not disappoint. It’s got cyborgs, car crashes, gung-ho mad scientists, attack baboons with machine guns, attack baboons with Taser prods, cybernetic bears, and computer hacking – I’d like to see Marvel or DC top that!
