Press Release

Get ready for Marvel’s most ambitious cover treatment yet!  In celebration of the landmark Origin II series, which unveils the mysterious mutant’s storied past, Marvel is giving Origin II #1 the red carpet treatment with a special acetate cover. Gorgeously rendered by superstar artist Adam Kubert, this unique cover features an ominous base layer underneath a second acetate layer of the clawed mutant entering the fray! Click here to see the cover in action on Marvel.com.

“With this year’s special December 24th on-sale date, we wanted to give retailers a cover that really popped off the shelves,” said Marvel’s SVP of Publishing Sales, David Gabriel. “With this acetate treatment and marquee position as one of the only two Marvel Comics on sale that week, we’re positive that no reader can miss—or resist – Origin II #1!”

In anticipation of this cover’s immense popularity, Marvel will have plenty of copies available for retailer orders to appease customer’s demands! Select retailers will receive a cover preview sheet before this item’s FOC date, and attendees at Marvel’s New York City Comic-Con Retailer Breakfast presentation will receive a free cover preview sheet as well.

“The first acetate cover I ever saw was on Marvels and it blew my mind. We’re looking to do the same thing with this cover to Origin II,” said X-Men Senior Editor Nick Lowe. “Adam Kubert is a living comic book legend and this cover demonstrates that out of the gate. Top it off with Frank Martin’s delicious colors? The rendering, the concept and the surprise that readers will get when they lift the top layer of the cover drives home what a can’t-miss event Origin II is.”

John Byrne Goes Fumetti in Star Trek Annual 2013 From IDW Publishing

John Byrne goes to “Strange New Worlds” with Star Trek Annual 2013!

Star Trek Annual 2013

The Most Unique “Photonovel” Ever Coming This December

John Byrne creates a “fumetti” style photonovel for Star Trek Annual 2013 – on sale in December from IDW Publishing.

Press Release

John Byrne is no stranger to breaking new ground and he is doing it again with the extra-length Star Trek Annual 2013, arriving this December from IDW.

Byrne returns to the Star Trek universe in an entirely unexpected way—for this annual, he has created a completely original Star Trek story that plays out like a “lost episode,” using a uniquely constructed photomontage to create an entirely new story. “Strange New Worlds” serves as a direct sequel to the fan-favorite episode, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” which aired as the third episode of Star Trek’s first season in 1966.

“There was a visual richness to that second pilot that really drew me in,” said writer/artist John Byrne, “and since I have long wanted to experiment with something like this project, that episode seemed the perfect choice for a sequel.”

It’s LIGHTS OUT at DC Comics in October 2013!

Green Lantern Goes LIGHTS OUT

in October!

Green Lantern #24

DC Comics goes LIGHTS OUT in October 2013 in their Green Lantern titles.

According to DC Comics, the Lights Out crossover event that begins in October and spans the entire Green Lantern Universe, will change it forever!… Or at least what forever means in comic book terms these days.

Here is the press release from DC and several preview pages from Green Lantern #24 with art by Billy Tan.

Press Release

This October, “Lights Out” will span across all of the GREEN LANTERN family titles. And earlier this week, Relic’s Villains Month one-shot hit stores and set the stage for this epic crossover event that will change the Green Lantern universe forever.

“There are seven different colors of the emotional spectrum, each of them represented by their own corps. Green Lanterns wear rings powered by will, Red Lanterns rage, Yellow Lanterns fear, and so on,” GREEN LANTERN writer Robert Venditti explained. “For reasons none of the Lanterns are sure of, the rings have been malfunctioning lately. Enter Relic, a remnant of the universe before ours, who thinks he knows what’s wrong with the rings and has a solution. Unfortunately, ridding the universe of every last Lantern is part of that solution.”

Recently, Top Cow Productions were able to resurrect CYBERFORCE and bring the first five issues to market for free due to support from their Kickstarter campaign.

Fans demanded more issues, so Cyberforce #6 will hit the market on September 18th, 2013 with a price tag of only $2.99.

Press Release

Cybernetic freedom fighters defend civilization from evil corporations and their takeover of the world in CYBERFORCE. Written and created by Marc Silvestri (THE DARKNESS, Uncanny X-Men), with art by Marco Turini, colors by Andy Troy (Astonishing X-Men), and finishes by digital wizard Stjepan Sejic (RAVINE, THE DARKNESS: THE DEATH OF JACKIE ESTACADO), CYBERFORCE #6 marks a landmark issue for the series and the beginning of a new story arc. CYBERFORCE launched with a record-setting promotion that gave readers the first five issues for free, making issue 6 the first issue in the series to cost anything, offered at the affordable price of $2.99.

Thanks to the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, TOP COW PRODUCTIONS, INC., and their loyal and amazing fans were able to raise enough money to resurrect the CYBERFORCE franchise. As a result, the first five issues of CYBERFORCE were sent to retailers all across the world to give away for free. Nothing like this had been done in comic book history, and as a result, fans have clamored for more. Issue 6, due in September, brings an end to the free promotion, but Silvestri trusts that the first five issues and the strength of this new story are enough incentive for readers to keep going.
