Preview of Tom Morello’s Orchid #1 by Dark Horse

Known for his musicianship in Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, and The Nightwatchman, Tom Morello brings his talent to another media – comic books. In October, Morello unleashes Orchid #1, part of a 12 issue mini-series from Dark Horse Comics.

Morello has talked to several media outlets about his work on Orchid and is excited about the possibilities of what comics have to offer. Each issue also includes a free downloadable song that was written for it.

“Orchid is the tale of a teenage prostitute who learns that she is more than the role society has imposed upon her.”

A New Supernatural Justice League!

DC Comics is re-incorporating some of their Vertigo characters back into the DC Universe with Justice League Dark. John Constantine, Deadman, Madame Xanadu, Shade the Changing Man, and Zatanna are the supernatural characters that comprise the new team in Justice League Dark #1.

Written by Peter Milligan and illustrated by Mikel Janin, Justice League Dark #1 features a cover by Ryan Sook and will be available for digital download or purchase at comic book stores on Wednesday September 28th, 2011.

Superman #1 (2011) Preview!

This week marks the fourth and final wave of DC Comics’ New 52 #1 releases. Many retailers have hailed the launch as a success and have sold out of many, if not all, of the #1 issues across the board. We’ll see, in these following weeks and months, if it was indeed a success and which books will continue on.

Right now, we’re lucky enough to have a preview of Superman #1, due out this week, from Comic Book Resources.

The new adventures of Superman begin here! What is The Man of Steel’s startling new status quo? How does it affect Lois Lane and The Daily Planet? There’s no time for answers now, because Superman must stop a monstrous threat to Metropolis – one that he somehow is the cause of!

Voltron Returns in December 2011 from Dynamite Entertainment

Voltron returns in December!

Dynamite Entertainment has announced that they will be publishing a Voltron comics beginning in December 2011. The series will be written by up and coming writer, Brandon Thomas, and will feature covers by painter Alex Ross. The interior artist has not yet been announced.

Slave Labor Graphics Adopts Digital Only Format For New Single Issues.

Slave Labor Graphics has announced that they will forego the traditional comic book format for new serialized comics and only distribute them as digital downloads.

As costs increase for lower print run titles, smaller publishers are looking for different business models in order to stay competitive in today’s marketplace. Slave Labor seems to have taken a bold move in that area. We wish them luck in the new digital future.

Dragon*Con 2011 Cosplay Photos

Dragon*Con 2011 was held September 2-5, 2011 in Atlanta, GA. One of North America’s largest multi-genre convention, it’s usually known for large amount of cosplayers that attend every year. Just about any character imaginable from TV, film, literature, comics, and music can be found being cosplayed at Dragon*Con.

DC Comics New 52 Preview: Supergirl #1

USA Today, as part of DC Comics’ New 52 media blitz, has a preview of Supergirl #1 this week. Along with the five page preview of the comic, there’s an interview with Supergirl #1 co-writers Michael Green and Mike Johnson. Head on over there for some info on the new series!

This month, Dynamite Entertainment is publishing George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones #1 based on the highly popular novel of the same name.

Written by George R.R. Martin and adapted by Daniel Abraham, and illustrated by Tommy Paterson, George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones #1 is available on Wednesday September 21st, 2011 in most comic book stores.

Eric Powell’s The Goon PSA by David Fincher and Blur Studio

The Goon is a creator-owned comic by Eric Powell that is currently published by Dark Horse Comics. For the last few years, director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network) has been shopping around a CG film version of The Goon with little success.

Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti are on board to voice The Goon and his sidekick Frankie and Blur Studios is providing the wonderful CG animation for the film. Blur Studios has recently done some off-time work on a Public Service Announcement featuring The Goon. While it’s still in the rough stages, it’s still a good indicator of what you can expect from the film – if it ever gets studio financing.
