IDW’s Library of American Comics and DC Entertainment proudly announce the beginning of a new partnership to reprint some of the rarest DC Comics stories — the Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman newspaper strips.
“We’re thrilled to announce a comprehensive publishing program for these historic strips,” said Greg Goldstein, IDW President and COO. “The Library of American Comics is the premier home for archival newspaper strips and this new partnership with DC Entertainment further cements the imprint’s reputation as second to none.”
At the same time that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman became the world’s most famous and recognizable superheroes in comic books in the 1940s and beyond, they also starred in runs of newspaper comic strips, most of which have not been seen since they first appeared.
The trailer for the upcoming DC animated feature, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1, debuted today courtesy of MTV Geek. Based on the classic 1986 Frank Miller 4 issue miniseries, it tells a story about a 55 year old Bruce Wayne who comes out of retirement to fight crime once again.

DC Entertainment announced today that its collectibles product line, previously known as DC Direct, has been re-launched with a new brand – DC Collectibles. Additionally, in early May 2012 DC Collectibles will expand its online store (www.DCComics.com/Collectibles) to offer its entire product line for sale on the web, in addition to the line’s primary availability in comic book retail locations. For those fans who prefer to purchase a product in-store, the website will also provide information on the closest retail location that carries a particular DC Collectibles product.

DC Entertainment will be bringing some of the comic book industry’s most iconoclastic writers and artists to the convention to discuss this year’s highly anticipated BEFORE WATCHMEN comic book event.
“We’ve gathered some of the most talented writers and artists to expand on the stories of the most provocative comic book characters of all time,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher and panelist Dan DiDio. “The hard part is waiting all the way until June to share the craziness with fans. We just might have to get people talking early about the importance of the five truths.”
Last week it was revealed that DC Entertainment was getting rid of the “swoosh” logo in favor of a newer, more modern look. The new “peel away” logo was quickly dismissed by many as ugly, plain and generic. Well, today, DC officially announced their “new brand identity” along with some examples and uses of their logo, which is based on the appropriately named Gotham font.
While I was one of those who hated the original design, which turned out to just be a template, I can tolerate the examples that DC has provided. I still don’t really quite like the new sleeker look entirely, but it looks much better then the basic design in black and white.
